So you may have heard of this story “Student arrested for wearing saggy pants.” Deshon Marman was arrested and removed from a U.S. Airways plane after refusing to pull up his pants which were allegedly at his knees. I have several points to make that may be helpful for teens or young adults if a scenario such as this were to present itself.
1. Teens and young adults often have difficulty swallowing their pride when they feel that someone is unjustly persecuting or even picking on them. Even when that person is an adult or an authority figure.
In this particular case, an adult asked Mariman to pull up his pants. He either refused or said he would do it when his hands were 
free of bags. Do I think it’s silly that airline personnel would waste time focusing on a non-issue such as saggy pants? Absolutely! I believe that the adults in this situation should have let it go if they had no reason to believe he was a threat to airline safety, which by all indications there was no evidence given to believe he was a security threat. However, had he immediately complied with the request, the problem would have been solved.
2. Teens and young adults need to learn to respect the wishes of authority figures even if they don’t agree. Why? Because there are consequences! In this case Marman was kicked off the plane, and arrested. Unfortunately, he is now facing legal charges.
I actually feel really bad for Deshon Marman. If it was me in his situation, I might have been just as angry. The fact that he is African-American just adds more fuel to the fire. If I were him, I might just suspect that they were picking on me because of my skin color. What it all comes down to is self-discipline! This whole situation could have been avoided if he was better able to control his emotions and his reactions. He would have gone down as the bigger man. Now unfortunately, the media will paint his image any way they choose.
